 Lesson #1: Music Drawing Assignment

This lesson plan is intended to have students reflect on how sound evokes feelings and how those emotions can be visually depicted through art-making. Students will learn about the neurological condition of Synesthesia and how our sense of sight and sound are related to one another. Students will listen to a song of their choice and draw along based off of the sounds they hear and the emotions they sense. Students will be encouraged to draw with their instincts through making quick artistic decisions such as, the speed of mark-making, line weight, and color choice. This lesson is intended to help students think beyond representation through specific imagery but rather abstraction and personal interpretation.

 Lesson #2: Found Object Assignment

This lesson is intended to help students think beyond traditional methods of artmaking through implementing found materials and repurposing objects. The main goal of this lesson is to teach students about the concept of utilizing accessible materials within their environment as a way to create meaningful artwork. Students will view examples of Assemblage Art and upcycling as a tool to create works that enhance their connection to the physical world around them. This lesson is meant to encourage students to shift their perspective towards “trash” as a form of sustainability in art.
