Drawing in Real Time

Allison Ellinger

This video depicts the artist's blood being drawn through clear plastic tubing that has been shaped into four arched loops. The title alludes to both the act of drawing the blood and of creating marks on the screen, and that the video has not been slowed or sped up.

The piece plays on the idea of body and performance, as the artist is both present on the screen and not. There is a visceral feeling in watching the dark blood crawl through the tubing, and to seeing the bright red stain that remains when it is drained.
