Juniata Park Academy

Student Teacher: Cristobal Vega
Cooperating Teacher: Dr. Linda Keels

 Lesson #1: Alebrijes

Students learned about the traditional folk art from Mexico. They leaned about the 4 elements that make up an Alebrije and how to represent them with color and physical forms. The students designed and created their Alebrije out of their own imagination.

 Lesson #2: Cave Paintings

The students went on a virtual trip to the Lascaux Cave in France and got to experience seeing the cave paintings inside. The students observed what colors, materials and subject matter was in the cave paintings. They used the ancient cave painting style and created their own stories to tell in that same manner.

TYL ‘21, BFA in Painting with Teaching Certification

My name is Cristobal Vega. I was born and raised in Norristown, PA. My family originates from Chavinda, Michoacán Mexico. I am a second generation Chicano immigrant. I will be graduating from Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University in June. I will be receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting with a certification in Art Education.

I am an active member in my community. I teach drawing and painting at the Center for Culture, Art, Training, and Education (CCATE) in Norristown, PA since 2013. I also coach soccer at Norristown Area High School and in Norristown's Recreational League.

I have always loved making art ever since I was very young. I knew I wanted to become an art educator in high school. My art teacher motivated me and inspired me to pursue art as a career. My goal is to show representation for Latinx students. I want to help my students find their voice and motivate them to become successful.

I use art as a way to explore my own identity. I draw from imagery that relates to my Mexican culture and from my time in the Army National Guard. I want to create an outlet in my classroom where students can explore different ways to figure out and express who they are.
