Dynamic Book Structures
Viewers might be surprised to see the objects in Dynamic Book Structures. They likely do not resemble our pre-conceived notions of what a book is supposed to look like, and they are seemingly dissimilar to one another. What does a set of books that imitates cosmetics have to do with a prayer book from Ethiopia? How does a tunnel book that unfurls to reveal a view of Venice have anything in common with a book of early computer punch cards or another with connected octagonal tiles? Each of these objects must be activated in order to access the information contained within. Whether by opening a compact case or using a “key card,” their unique forms require our participation. The joy of this section is that the conceptual and tactile challenges these books pose to us are the exact grounds for discovering and exploring our own impulses for creative expression.
