Abigael Coburn
Edward Hopper said, “if you could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint.” Those that know me know that I am a person of few words and as a serious introvert, painting and other forms of art making have always been something I have used as my form of expression. My way to communicate what cannot be said. While some of my work serves as a tool for learning and furthering technical ability, other works explore different ways of practicing art in a therapeutic way. From painting and mixed media to collage and fibers, I tend to draw most of my influence from nature, botanicals, the environment, and found objects. Utilizing the items, shapes, and colors found in nature brings me a sense of peace and calm in an otherwise chaotic world.

Art Therapy ‘23
Abigael Coburn is currently a senior at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, graduating in Fall 2023 with her BA in Art Therapy. She primarily works in mixed media painting, but enjoys collage and fibers as well. Growing up in Baltimore, MD, art has been a part of Abigael’s life for as long as she can remember. In high school, she became interested in neuroscience/psychology and decided a career as an art therapist was the perfect way to incorporate her love of art with her newfound interests. After graduation she plans to stay in Philadelphia to pursue her master’s in the field.
