Amber Rose Porter

When I sit to create artwork, I often utilize pictures of friends, loved ones, or even strangers. I like to get up close and personal with the image by zooming in and dissecting the colors. Through portraiture, I reflect the feeling of self-discovery, healing, and hope. I find the fluidity of paint to quickly recall the emotion on the page. I find that utilizing imagery such as close-ups of faces helps capture what is happening internally for an individual, while images of the entire body tend to convey the external sensations outside of the individual. My still lives and pottery reflect my gravitation to eclectic objects with significant memories. My art is a scrapbook of my personal development in understanding myself, whether it is a self-portrait or not.

Art Therapy ‘23

Amber Porter, an artist from West Chester, Pennsylvania, enjoys creating with many mediums. Her subjects primarily include portraiture, figures, and imagery concerning the human body. Many of her pieces revolve around the exploration of self, identity, growth, and human experience. Amber began her college career at Tyler School of Art and Architecture as an Art Therapy major in Fall 2020 and will graduate in Spring 2024. Her gravitation to art therapy felt natural due to her love of experimenting with art materials and forging meaningful relationships with others through art making.
